‘Young people and mental health in a changing world’ was the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day

October 11, 2018

Did you know…
Half of all mental illness begins before the age of 14
There is a growing recognition of the importance of building mental resilience
Prevention begins with better understanding

Every year, The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10th October.

First celebrated in 1992, World Mental Health Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.  Fast forward to today, and the momentum and support behind raising mental health awareness across the globe is never more evident than in the first ever global mental health summit which was held in London yesterday.

The meeting was hosted by UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock, and was attended by ministers and officials from more than 50 countries as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  On a day for positive news, Prime Minister, Theresa May, also announced the appointment of Jackie Doyle-Price as minister for suicide prevention.
