Did you see The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes on Channel 4?
Earlier this week, Channel 4 aired a ground breaking documentary featuring a number of people living with dementia.
The format of the show includes ten volunteers with dementia who sign up to help run a restaurant which is headed up by Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton.
The programme doesn’t really focus on the symptoms but more about how people living with dementia are viewed and treated differently, particularly professionally, because their abilities have changed.
David Baddiel was the first celebrity guest and commented: “None of these people are probably going to end up thinking: ‘Oh yeah, I can be a chef or a waiter’. What they can provide is their story.”
The question that comes across throughout the programme is whether employers could be making reasonable adjustments to allow for different abilities.
One thing the show has done is to help raise awareness and a greater understanding of dementia. The feedback on social media and in the wider media has been quite emotional, with many viewers feeling heartbroken at the cruelty of the condition.
The second in the series of five airs next week: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-restaurant-that-makes-mistakes/episode-guide/
